FUNERAL SERVICE: Graveside Services will be held at 2:30 pm on Sunday, May 3rd at Greenwood Cemetery, 1173 Cascade Road, SW, Atlanta, GA 30311 with Rabbi Hearshen officiating.

SHIVA: Shiva will be held at the home of Bill and Deborah Hatherley, 2140 Stephens Walk, Atlanta, GA. Shiva will begin on Sunday, May 3, following the funeral with Minyan starting at 8:10 pmat Congregation Ariel.

OBITUARY
The Obituary for Victor Levy

Victor Levy, 96, of Atlanta, passed away on Friday morning, May 1, 2026.  Born on Pryor Street, he was the son of Bohor David and Emily BarDavid Levy and was a lifetime member of Congregation OrVeShalom and more recently, also a member at Congregation Ariel.  As a young boy, he helped his father in the shoe repair business while attending Boys High School.  He met his future bride, Gertrude Carson Levy, when he was 13 years old.  On February 26, 1950 they were married for 61 years before she passed.  After graduation from High School, he worked at Vic’s Delicatessen owned by his uncle Morris Benator, while attending Georgia State University, where he received a Bachelors Degree in Accounting.  In his early years, he worked at Orkin Exterminating Company as an accountant.  In 1962, he started a job at the State of Georgia Department of Education were he served as an accountant for the Department of Vocational Education until he retired in 1993, however, they continued to employ him part time until 1999.  After Gertrude died in 2011, he met a second love of his life, Hilda Goodelman.  They dated for several years and were engaged before she died in 2014. 

Victor began playing golf in high school with his golf buddies, Leo Benatar, Victor Benatar, Louis Shemaria, David Franco, Raymond Arogeti, Hymie and Louie Shemaria.  Some members of this group continued playing golf and telling golf jokes together for the next 60 years.  Victor also had another golf group of retirees that played every Thursday for 30 years.  He played golf twice a week until he was well into his 90’s.  

Victor was predeceased by his loving wife, Gertrude Carson Levy, his brother, Eli Levy, and his sisters, Sarah Gilman and Sylvia Benator.  Survivors include his children: Deborah and William Hatherley and Joanne and Bradley Morantz; his grandchildren: Esther Morantz and Joey Hazan and Aleah and Ari Poliakoff; and great-grandchildren: Joseph Hatherley, Samuel Hazan, Shabsi Poliakoff, Yerahmiel “Rocky” Poliakoff and.  Victor was a dearly loved and respected member of the family and leaves behind many nieces and nephews as well as a large extended family.  His family and friends all remember him as a humble man who quietly supporting others.  He shared his words of wisdom and is also known for his jokes and silly, yet profound sayings.   He cherished his relationships and his many close friends.  He will truly be missed.
