Stanley Donald Bernath, a native Atlantan, died peacefully on September 12, 2025. During his ninety years, he lived life to the fullest and never met a stranger, a quality that ensured his success as a visionary and entrepreneur throughout his life. After serving in the United States Army, he began his career in his family’s business, Bernath’s Market, on Georgia Avenue. He went on to found C&S Wholesale Meats, later incorporated as Dora Dee’s Products, Inc.
By leading his family’s business with care and compassion, Stanley was rewarded not only with financial success, but also the loyalty and affection of his employees, many who stayed with him for fifty years. This same culture exists today, as C&S Wholesale Meats begins its family’s fourth generation of management and ownership.
Stanley loved all Atlanta sports, especially the Braves. He treasured his time in Florida, where he walked on the beach and rarely missed a spring training game.
His children were blessed with a father who, in the same way he ran his business, lovingly encouraged them to work hard and do their best. By example, he instilled solid values and taught his children to be strong and tough, yet compassionate and kind. He taught them to be bold, make good choices, and always be respectful. Stanley’s longstanding client relationships, as well as his personal friendships, were evidence of the loyalty and love people felt for him. Because of his ability to engage others in a positive and uplifting way, he filled a room with his amazing presence.
Stanley is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Sybil Bernath, son Jay Bernath, daughters Stacye Fogel (Harris) and Andrea Cushing (Steve), granddaughters Allie Fogel and Kerri Fogel, and grandson Aaron Rosenberg.
He will be deeply missed by family and friends. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, September 17th at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs, GA. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
