Sheila Berger, 89, passed away peacefully in her home in Roswell, GA on August 14, 2025, surrounded by her fiercely dedicated and loving son, Kevin.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, Sheila was a devoted wife and beloved mother who raised three children (all 16-months apart) while juggling multiple careers. She was one of the first female chemists at what is now known as International Flavors & Fragrances (IFF) and was responsible for helping put Estée Lauder in business. Spotted by Robert Fiance in NYC, Sheila was recruited to be a hair model as a side gig. Sheila went on to be a dedicated NY State paraprofessional as a reading teacher, mentor and tutor to thousands of children.
Most important to many, Sheila was the original Dr. Mom and caretaker to all that were smart enough to rely on her intuitive diagnostic skills. She also served as a cub scout den leader and, in later years, got lost in her studio designing earrings and accessory jewelry for family and friends. Interests and skills included interior design with an eye towards designing classic mid-century modern pieces, gardening, birdwatching, knitting and swimming. Her multigenerational influence and impact was immeasurable.
Sheila cherished the memories made with family and pets to many of the nation’s national parks. Sheila shared a deep appreciation and purposeful support for nature causes including our national parks, elephants, giraffes, whales, manatees, sea turtles and sequoias.
Sheila was predeceased by her parents, Pauline and Jacob Lefkowitz; sister, Hildy Berger; and husband of 52 years, Reuben Philip Berger - all of blessed memory.
She is survived by her forever grateful, first born son, Kevin J. Berger.
A graveside service will be held Monday, August 18, 2025 at 2:30 p.m. at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs, with Rabbi Judith R. Beiner officiating and with arrangements by Dressler’s Jewish Funeral Care, 770-451-4999. If you wish to honor Sheila’s life and legacy with a charitable donation, please consider a gift to a cause that is close to your heart.
May Shaindel's memory be for a blessing for all who knew her.
