Dr. Rosalyn Ghitter
1936-2026
Rosalyn Vita Ghitter was born in Augusta, Georgia to Mollie (Wilensky) and Leon Ghitter. After attending Richmond Academy in Augusta and Northwestern University (1958), she worked as a speech therapist in Atlanta and Washington DC. She later moved to the Baltimore area, where she served as the Director of the Speech and Language Clinic at Towson University (now part of the University of Maryland) and earned her PhD in Hearing and Speech Sciences from the University of Maryland. To this day, colleagues and former students alike speak of her kindness, generosity, and exceptional intellect, as well as her gift as both a teacher and mentor. In 2019, she moved to Atlanta to be closer to family.
Rosalyn adored her husband, Arnold Rudo, who predeceased her in 2009; they enjoyed a marriage rich with friends and laughter. Rosalyn was a devoted sister and friend, known for her incredible warmth and the ability to light up a room. She loved to travel and especially reveled in her role as an aunt and great aunt, and was absolutely treasured by her nephews, nieces, grandniece, and grandnephews.
She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Leah & Herbert Zarge, her nephews and nieces, Ellen & Joseph Zarge, Faun & Jonathan Zarge, and her grandniece and grandnephews, David, Jason, Livia, Jeremy, and Ilan Zarge. She was predeceased by her brother, Irvin Ghitter.
Rosalyn truly lived the quote she chose for her high school yearbook: “Knowledge comes, but wisdom lingers.”
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be directed to the Speech and Language Center at Towson University or the Alzheimer's Association.
