Rodney Godwin OBITUARY

Rodney Scott Godwin
April 29, 1970 – August 12, 2025

After facing cancer with extraordinary courage, grace, and an unshakable positive spirit, Rodney Scott Godwin (Ruvin Shlomo) passed away peacefully on August 12, 2025, in Atlanta, Georgia, surrounded by the love of his family.

Rodney was born on April 29, 1970, to the late Jimmy W. Godwin and Lynda Scott Godwin. He is survived by his best friend and beloved wife, Mindy Hamburger Godwin of Atlanta, his sons, Jack and Spencer, his sisters, Dana Weaver (Scott) nephew’s Davis and Palmer of Flowery Branch, GA, and Robin Macon (Eddie) nephews Wesley and Taylor of Roswell, GA, and his brother-in-law, Mitch Hamburger (Allison Eagle) of Atlanta, GA and his father-in-law Steve Hamburger and late mother in law Sharon Friedland Hamburger (Oie) of Atlanta, GA. He was preceded in death by his father, Jimmy, and his brother, Wade Godwin. He leaves behind many beloved cousins aunts and uncles.

Rodney was a fighter in life. Not just in his brave battle with cancer, but in everything he believed in. He fought for what mattered most: his family, his friends, and the principles he held dear.

To know Rodney was to know devotion to his wife, to his family, and to his friends. He and Mindy met in 1996, married in 2000, and from that day forward, they were inseparable. They were partners in life, love, laughter, and raising their boys, the center of his world. Rodney took great joy in sharing his passions with Jack and Spencer, especially sports. Whether it was karate, wrestling, fantasy football, or the cherished annual trips to Braves spring training in Florida, Rodney made sure their lives were filled with memorable experiences. Countless hours were spent together cheering for Atlanta’s sports teams, watching UGA football, enjoying pro wrestling and MMA, or catching the latest race, always with enthusiasm and a touch of friendly debate.

Rodney’s love for traveling came from his mom Lynda, who selflessly brought him along on their adventures, creating cherished memories and instilling in him a lifelong sense of curiosity and appreciation for the world.

Rodney shared a very special bond with his grandparents, particularly his grandmother, Edna “GG.” The two could talk endlessly about the Braves, swap stories, and savor her famous Chicken Tetrazzini. In more recent years, Aunt Susie became an irreplaceable part of the family’s journey, offering love, comfort, and unwavering support during Rodney’s illness, a true angel on earth.

In the later chapters of his life, Rodney found deep purpose as an Addiction Specialist, guiding and inspiring countless people on their road to recovery. His compassion, willingness to listen, and genuine care left an indelible mark on all who crossed his path.

Rodney was reserved by nature and a calming presence in any gathering. Only those closest to him were lucky enough to see how warm he was, how deeply he cared, and how generously he gave of himself.

The world is dimmer without Rodney’s bright spirit, but his love, humor, and kindness will live on in the countless lives he touched. His family and friends will carry his memory forward, cherishing the moments shared, and the lessons learned from a life lived with heart and authenticity.
