OBITUARY

With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Rita Horowitz, age 78, on October 19, 2024, in Johns Creek, Georgia. Born on April 28, 1946, in Brooklyn, NY, Rita was a loving wife, devoted mother, doting grandmother, and a dedicated educator who touched countless lives throughout her career.

Rita’s passion for education led her to serve as an elementary school teacher in the Bellmore School District for over 25 years. She was especially proud to lead the gifted program and serve as the head of the teacher’s union, where she was a tireless advocate for her colleagues and students alike. Her warmth, wisdom, and belief in the potential of every child left a lasting impact on those who were fortunate enough to know her.

Rita shared a beautiful 59-year marriage with her beloved husband, David, who was her constant source of love and strength. She is survived by her son, Michael, and his wife, Jennifer; her daughter, Judith, and her husband, Jeff; and her six grandchildren, who were her pride and joy: Rachel and her husband, Hugh, Matthew, Joseph, Darian, Josh, and John. Rita’s family was her heart, and she cherished every moment spent with them.

Rita was preceded in death by her parents, William and Doris Yatwin, whom she loved dearly.

In her later years, Rita found joy in the simple pleasures of life—playing canasta with friends, traveling the world, and being an active member of the Park Place Adult Center. Her wisdom, strength, and love will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 25th, at Green Lawn Cemetery in Roswell, Georgia, at 10:00 AM. Following the service, the family will welcome loved ones at 5225 Bannergate Drive in Johns Creek to share memories and celebrate Rita’s life.
