OBITUARY
Richard (“Dick”) Hoffenson, age 76, of Marietta, Georgia, passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2026. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Dick is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Linda (Schreck) Hoffenson; his daughter, Andrea Hoffenson; and his son, Steven Hoffenson and his wife Jaclyn Rheins, and their daughters Claire and Charlotte. He is also survived by his twin brother, Thomas (“Tom”) Hoffenson. He was preceded in death by his mother, Marie, and his father, Moses.
After graduating from the University of Florida, Dick worked for Rich’s Department Stores developing and implementing their early computer operated systems. Following Rich’s, he spent 30 years working for IBM, which took him to cities all around the world. After IBM, he worked for several more years as a contractor for Home Depot and SunTrust Bank. His frequent work travel inspired many memorable family trips and ultimately fostered a love for traveling during retirement.
Above all, Dick was a family man who took great pride and joy in being a loving husband, father, and “Pop-Pop.” He cherished every moment spent playing with his granddaughters.
An avid reader with a deeply curious mind, he loved learning about the world and understanding how things worked. Dick was exceptionally handy around the house and with cars. He took great pleasure in being the first person his daughter called when she needed advice on fixing things around her house, and he always looked forward to helping his son with household projects.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs, Georgia. Shiva will take place at the family home on Tuesday at 7:00PM as well as on Wednesday at 5:30 PM.
May his memory be a blessing.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to organizations that align with his values, such as the American Cancer Society, Congregation B’nai Torah, or the Jewish Federation.
