Ranette S. Shams of Marietta, GA, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2026, from heart failure. She had been in declining health for some years and had early stage dementia. Ranette leaves behind her older brother, Al; sister-in-law, Amanda; and 2 nieces.
Ranette was predeceased by her father, Solomon; mother, Sylvia; sister, Arlene; and brother, Marvin.
Ranette was born in 1949 and was the last child in the family. She was an energetic, lively youngster, attended and excelled in public schools. Upon graduation from Pensacola High School in 1967, she attended the University of Florida; her passion and major was special education, earning several degrees in that field.
After graduation from the University of Florida, she moved to Atlanta to join her brother and sister. For more than 22 years, she taught at Cobb County, and had a loving and enduring impact on her students.
She was an active participant and contributor to a number of Cobb County educational organizations.
In her personal life, she enjoyed dance, art, and travel; visiting Israel and Europe, among other destinations. Being a Syrian / Lebanese Jew was an important part of her life. She loved to prepare and enjoy Lebanese cuisine with family and friends.
Judaism played an important role in her life.
Her last wishes were to be an organ donor in order to help others.
May God embrace her with love and compassion.
