OBITUARY:
Rachel “Rae” Bellman
88, Atlanta
Rae was the eldest daughter of Ida & Wolf Sugarman formerly of Lodz, Poland then immigrated to Wilmington, De. Rae was born on July 12, 1937 in Wilmington.
As a teacher spanning over 55 + years, she touched many lives! Rae would only teach at Jewish schools, The Epstein School & The Hebrew Academy ( AJA). That’s where she felt at home. She wanted to infuse the children with some Jewish identity and ignite their Jewish neshama! Till only recently students from as far back as 45 years recognize her (& her trademark red hair!) and came up to her to share a memory or two!
Rae was an integral part of many charitable organizations. AMIT Women & The Sisterhood of Beth Jacob were 2 of her favorites, her labors of love!
Rae is survived by her 2 children: Rabbi Barry Klein (& Rachel) of Har Noff, Israel & Lisa Klein of Englewood, NJ. She was the quintessential Savta of : AJ & Orah, Donny, Ari, Yehuda & Batya, Tehilla Malka & Avi , Chaya Sara & Yisrael, Nechama Leah & Nechemia, Rivka, Hadassah, Elisheva, Shoshanah & Ahuva, and seven great grandchildren! Most reside in Israel. Rae was blessed to have seen them all in her last trip to Jerusalem this past Chanukah.
A graveside funeral was held on September 8th at Crestlawn Memorial Park in Atlanta. She was buried next to her beloved husband, Morris Bellman, of over 40 years!
