OBITUARY
Paula Neuman Gris - Wife, mother, grandmother, Child Holocaust survivor, educator, entrepreneur, activist, friend, Zionist, and Baalat Chesed/Baalat Habayit extraordinaire, passed away peacefully on June 24th at the age of 88.

Born in Czernowitz Romania, Paula survived confinement in a ghetto, nearly two years in the Romanian concentration camps in Transnistria, and a further seven years as a displaced person, before arrival in the US in 1951 alongside her mother and younger sister. Paula met Bill Gris while working at a day camp. The couple subsequently married and spent the last 67+ years nourishing a life, family and the Atlanta Jewish community together. Paula and Bill were active pioneers in the growth of the Beth Jacob Community. Her thirst for knowlege and Torah learning knew no bounds. She was involved in the Sisterhood as well as the PTA.

Paula taught pre school at the Hebrew Academy for many years before joining her dear friend Madeline Eplan in building a business, Bed and Breakfast Atlanta, that was decades ahead of its time.  

After retiring she went on to become a Holocaust educator, speaking to students and teachers across Georgia and as a docent at the Breman Holocaust Museum. 

Her love and devotion to her family and to her friendships were hard to measure.

Paula was a truly remarkable and radiant person. She possessed a rare gift for making everyone feel seen and valued, leaving a lasting impression on every life she touched.

She will be sorely missed by all who ever knew her. 

Paula is survived by her husband Bill, her daughters Joy (Dan Epstein) and Rebecca (Dan Ashburn), and her sons Sam (Gina Castorino Gris), Avi (Tamar Gris), and Ben (Erin Gris). She had a deep and loving relationship with her 12 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

The levaya will take place in Israel at Eretz Hachaim in Beit Shemesh on Friday morning. There will be a live stream as well.  

Shiva in Atlanta will be observed at the home of Bill Gris, 1300 Carolyn Dr.
