OBITUARY:
Norma Marx (91)
Norma Marx died at home peacefully on April 26, 2026. She was the widow of Hans Benjamin Marx to whom she was married for almost 65 years.
Born and raised in New York City, Norma and Hans moved to Jerusalem after raising their family and working in the Philadelphia area for several decades. During their 17 years in Jerusalem, Norma found her voice as a short story writer, culminating in the 2013 publication of her collection, Stories of Jerusalem, Israel, and Other Loves. She continued her love of writing after moving to the Renaissance on Peachtree by becoming the long-time editor of the internal Renaissance Journal.
Even after returning to the States, Norma remained devoted to Israel and a vocal Zionist. She read the newspaper every day looking for the latest news from Israel and was eager to hear others’ political opinions and share hers with anyone. An avid movie buff, Norma loved attending the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival and watching as many films as she could.
Norma was most proud of her four talented granddaughters, Elise, Adina, Talia and Jenna, all of whom take after her. She is also survived by her children, Steven (Barbara), Judy (Eric Miller) and David (Claudine), by her brother Irv Shear and by nieces, nephews, cousins and friends all around the world. We are all deeply grateful to the women who gave Norma exceptional care, Pamela, Paula and Monica (Nikki’s team), who allowed her to be comfortable and enjoy her life for the past year.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Norma’s memory may be made to the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival (www.ajff.org).
