OBITUARY

Norbert Zucker, age 86, of Alpharetta, GA passed away on March 2, 2025.

Born in Belgium, Norbert and his family fled to the United States in 1942 and settled in Manhattan. He attended Yeshiva High School and Cooper Union before setting out on his career as a transportation engineer, working on subway systems, bridges and trains for New York City. Following that he left for the Midwest to work for the Michigan Department of Transportation and then to Maryland to work for the federal Department of Transportation. Later, he took those experiences and shared them with the next generation as a professor of urban planning at Morgan State University.

January 19th, 1962 was the happiest day of his life when he met Phyllis Margolis at a Jewish singles event in the Catskills. The following year the two were married and would have celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on March 31st of this year.

Throughout his life, he was an active member of his Jewish communities, always willing to share his deep knowledge of ritual and tradition. After his retirement, he taught Hebrew school, trained b'nai mitzvah students and served as a lay cantor.

Norbert is survived by his loving wife Phyllis, sister Sandy Tanenbaum (David), daughters Sherryl and Laura, son-in-law Doug Konkel, and grandsons Ben and Sam Konkel.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 5 at 3:00pm at Greenlawn Cemetery in Roswell with Rabbi Michael Bernstein officiating.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the following: Gesher L'Torah Religious School, American Friends of Magen David Adom or the American Committee for the Weizmann Institute of Science
