Myra Sokol

Myra Sokol (Richman), 84, a Wayne, NJ resident for over 40 years, passed away on November 5, 2025 in Atlanta, Georgia. 

Myra was born in Brooklyn, NY. She was the first in her family to attend college, graduating early from Brooklyn College as one of the few women to major in pure mathematics. Specializing as a statistician, Myra did statistical location analysis for JC Penny and worked in the insurance industry to put her husband through graduate school before leaving work to raise a family. 

A very loving and encouraging mother, Myra raised her two children and then, as an empty-nester, volunteered at Wayne Hills High School and worked as a financial aid counselor at Passaic County Community College. She lived in New York, Michigan, Illinois, Ohio, New Jersey, and Georgia, and traveled outside the country to New Zealand.

Myra was an avid reader, walked daily, enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and made friends wherever she went. For decades, Myra was one of the Wayne Public Library's biggest patrons. She always enjoyed hearing about what her children, grandchildren, and friends were up to, and was very grateful for everyone in her life.

Myra is survived by her brother Steve and sister-in-law Judy (of Highland Park, New Jersey); her son Joel, daughter-in-law Natalie, and grandchildren Leora, Aaron, and Caleb (of Atlanta, Georgia); and her daughter Sharon, son-in-law Gordon, and grandchildren Gregor, Nathan, and Daniel (of Wellington, New Zealand); as well as friends (some of over 50 years) in several states.


SHIVA: Shiva visiting will be at the home of Joel Sokol, 1175 Houston Mill Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30329.  Shiva visiting will start at Mincha on Thursday and run through 2:30pm on Friday, and then resume Sunday at Shacharit through Shacharit on Wednesday. Minyan times are as follows:

Shacharit: Friday 7am, Sunday 8am, Monday 6:50am, Tuesday 7:30am, Wednesday 7:30am

Mincha/Maariv: Thursday 5:25pm, Sunday through Tuesday 5:20pm
