Murray Lee Rose, 98, of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away on September 16, 2026 at Berman Commons. He was born on June 8,1928 in Chicago, Illinois to Hannah and Jack Rose.
After graduating Hyde Park High in Chicago, he earned a degree in Electrical Engineering at Northwestern University Technical Institute and later earned a graduate degree in Management Engineering from Newark College of Engineering. He was drafted into the Army during the Korean Conflict and served 2 years at Aberdeen Proving grounds.
His engineering career included employment at U.S. Metals Refining Company and Standard Motor Products. Following “retirement” he spent 11 years as a credit manager with his brother-in-law’s lingerie company, Va Bien International.
Murray’s civic and Jewish involvement was lifelong. In Cranford he was President of every organization he was involved with: Cranford Jaycees, Cranford Welfare Association, Youth Employment Services of Cranford, the Suburban Symphony Society and the Interfaith Council for the Homeless. In Cranford, at New Jersey’s Temple Beth-El-Mekor Chaim synagogue he was President of the congregation three times as well as chair of the Youth Commission and the House, Membership, Cemetery, Bikur Cholim and Social Action committees. He achieved many awards and recognition for his civic involvement.
His hobbies included puttering in the garden, fixing things, reading all genres of books and news magazines and completing the NYTimes Sunday crossword puzzle in ink.
Murray was fortunate to find love two times in his life; first with his wife Joan Gimple for almost 50 years and then later with his partner Gladys Ramm for almost 20 years. He had a quick wit and loved to tell and hear a good joke. He was generous to countless charities and organizations.
Murray was predeceased by parents, Hannah and Jack, and sister, Suzanne and wife, Joan. He is survived by five children: Barbara Vahaba, Karen Rose, Donna Heldman (Andrew), Robin Samuels (Jack) and David Rose; eight grandchildren: Hannah O’Donoghue (Martin), Joseph Vahaba (Michelle), Kimberly Stearns (Brian), Charlie Heldman, Gabe and Noah Samuels, and Justin and Michael Rose; and six great grandchildren: Ronan O’Donoghue, Aria, Zeke and Arthur Vahaba, and Bella and Cooper Stearns.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Murray’s charities of choice: Jewish National Fund, Anti-Defamation League, American Civil Liberties Union or to Jewish Home Life’s assisted living facility, Berman Commons.
