Morton Lefkoff

OBITUARY: 

Morton Lefkoff was born on October 10, 1929, in Atlanta, GA, to Maier and Lillian Lefkoff. The oldest of their children, Morton was a lifelong Atlantan. He attended and graduated form Boys High School in Atlanta and went on to graduate from the University of Georgia with BBA in Business.

The only time Morton ever lived outside Atlanta was to find his true love, Eileen, in Miami, where he worked at Central Bank and Trust Company, and for a time, was the only male in the female bookkeeping department.

Morton eventually returned home to Atlanta, where he worked as a sales manager for Kaufman Supplies. He was loved by his many customers, who affectionately knew him as “Mort Lewis.” And if you knew Mort, you also knew there was a very good chance you could find him napping in his truck after his lunch break.

Sundays were some of our favorite days. Morton could be found with Eileen and his cousins, playing tennis, followed by bagels, drinks, and listening to classical music. These simple traditions were filled with the people and things he loved most.

Morton was known by everyone who knew him for his enormous heart, kind soul, wonderful sense of humor, and, of course, his regular trips to The Varsity. He has a way of making people feel welcome and cared for, and he leaves behind countless memories that will bring smiles and laughter for years to come.

Morton will be deeply missed, lovingly mourned, and forever celebrated by his devoted wife of 63 years, Eileen: his children, Philip (Elena), Marci and Lilly; his beloved grandsons, Max and Sasha; and his stepdaughter, Lisa Stein.

But to us, he was simply Poppy.

Poppy, we will always hold a place for you on the hammock in the backyard—napping in the sunshine, listening to your radio, exactly where you belong.

We love you, Poppy. And we always will.
