Martin (Marty) Kwatinetz, 89, of Dunwoody, GA (raised in Brooklyn, NY), devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2026, after a long illness. Marty was the son of the late Philip and Rachel Kwatinetz. Marty was the beloved husband of Mildred and the cherished father of his daughter Phyllis Abrams and son, Neil (Robin Belsky) Kwatinetz. He was treasured as “Zayde” by his grandchildren Jack (Ashley) Kwatinetz, Sydney (Steven) Linton, Katie Kwatinetz, Rachel Abrams and Jacob Abrams. He was also loved by his brother, Gary Kwatinetz, who survives him, as well as numerous loving cousins, extended family members, and friends.
Marty met Mildred through Marty’s uncle, who was a salesman, who did business with Mildred’s father, Jake Morris of Morris Brothers Luggage located in Atlanta, Georgia. Mildred and Marty spent their careers at Morris Brothers, eventually, owning it for several years before they retired in 2008. The business shaped their marriage and their lives. They were married in 1961 and celebrated their 65th anniversary on January 1st of this year.
Marty and Mildred have been active members of Ahavath Achim synagogue, Mildred for her entire life and Marty since he moved to Atlanta. Marty became a devoted member of Ahavath Achim’s morning minyan in 1989, following the death of his mother, and was still leading the Wednesday morning service via ZOOM throughout much of his illness. For several years, Marty was a book reader for Vocal Point (formerly the Georgia Radio Reading Service or GARS) for the blind. He took up philately after his son joined a junior stamp club at the Atlanta Jewish Community Center and became a committed member of their Israel Philatelist Club.
