OBITUARY FOR MARSHALL BERMAN
JUNE 9th, 1939 to DECEMBER 18th, 2024
Marshall Berman, 85 years old, of Roswell, GA, passed away on December 18th, 2024. Prior to moving to Brookdale Chambrel Roswell in June 2022, he spent 40+ in Thomasville, GA and 16 years in Quitman, GA where Marshall was a father, zayde/grandfather, uncle, son, community leader, US MARINE, rancher, disabled veteran, DVOP, leader, recruiter, promoter, political candidate for Thomas County Magistrate Judge and a once in a lifetime candidate for Georgia State Senator; NWA professional wrestling & Championship Rodeo promoter, horse lover, avid reader, teacher and entrepreneur after he retired.
Marshall was known for his exceptional skills and great empathy for others. He was honored multiple times in his life with special awards and recognition including being appointed LIEUTENANT COLONEL, AIDE DE CAMP, GOVERNOR’S STAFF by two former Governors of the state of Georgia, Governor Joe Frank Harris in 1987 and Governor Zell Miller in 1991; based on his leadership on behalf of local veterans in Thomasville, GA.
Marshall was buried with honors at the Tallahassee National Cemetery in Florida on December 23rd, 2024. Rabbi Paul Sidlofsky of Temple Israel Tallahassee, FL officiated the service and funeral arrangements were handled by Dresslers Funeral Home in Atlanta.
Honorary pallbearers were the “Cocoons” of Thomasville.

Marshall was born in Fall River, Massachusetts and was the son of Max Paul Berman and Bertha Gordon Berman, the brother of the late Natalie Estelle Berman Dinnerman Lipson from Valdosta/Ormond Beach, FL and Joyce Francis Berman Ritch of Providence, R.I.
Marshall is survived by three sons, Darryl Lee Berman (Enid) in Johns Creek, GA, Todd Alan Berman (Ellen) in Oslo, Norway, Scott Evan Berman (Elise) in Atlanta, GA, four grandchildren (Noah, Josh, Christopher and Daniel; and a cousin, Alvin Rothkopf, in Philadelphia, PA.
Marshall met his wife of 61 years, the late Sheila Barbara “Bobbie” Lipson Berman, at BFC Durfee High School in Fall River, MA. After graduating high school Marshall joined the US MARINE CORPS in 1958.
Marshall married his high school sweetheart in 1960 and was stationed at Marine Air Station Cherry Point, N.C. His first born son, Darryl Lee, was born in 1961; Todd Alan in 1963 before the family moved to south Georgia, where he moved to open Quitman Manufacturing (“the Pajama Factory”) in 1964. His third son, Scott Evan, came along in 1967 where the boys grew up.
In addition, the GEORGIA SENATE CREATED AND ADOPTED RESOLUTION 345 in 1999 in honor of Marshall Berman’s 60th birthday, based on his continued success assisting many veterans in ways big and small, through his 12 years of service as a Disabled Veteran Outreach Person(DVOP) for the Georgia Department of Labor; his leadership in Thomasville on behalf of local veterans and in making the Veteran’s Express Bus in Thomas County a reality; and in helping any veteran who crossed his path overcome the challenges of everyday life, such as car trouble or making financial ends meet.
