Mark Schimmel OBITUARY

OBITUARY

Mark Alan Schimmel, a Market Analyst by day and Musician by life, passed away at the age of 75, on September 5th, at his residence in Roswell, Georgia.

Mark was born and raised in Houston, Texas, followed by adventures in Austin, Atlanta, Los Angeles and New York City before settling in suburban Atlanta. Living by his own creative rules, through his wit, charisma, inner strength, and an exceptional ability to connect with others, he forged life-long friendships. Just the mention of Mark’s name to his friends and family will immediately trigger memorable stories the likes of a John Hughes type film or Canterbury Tales.

Mark excelled in his life and work, with the great love and support of his talents by his parents Moses and Sandra Schimmel, and through his own brightness, keen sensitivity and creativity. From an early age Mark’s passion in life was to be a musician, and to this end, he spent years honing his craft as an exceptional rhythm guitarist and lead singer for his band, Moody Phillips & Troublemaker —  the name itself capturing Mark Schimmel’s essence

Mark’s love for music expression was second only to the great love of his life, his strong, wise and warm pediatric nurse, Lynn Klein. Lynn accompanied Mark on his music career journey in New York City and eventually had their beloved son, Michael, in 1987. After Michael was born, Mark made the difficult decision to let go of the music business and pursue a career (self-taught) in the service of raising their baby and moved to Atlanta, GA with his family to become a Market Analyst.

For the next 16 years, Mark lived the American dream as a loving husband and father, enjoying his flourishing family and career. Unexpectedly in 2003, Mark was diagnosed with a non-cancerous meningioma brain tumor. Through various surgeries and treatments, his ability to lead an independent life diminished. With the combined power of Lynn’s unwavering commitment, as well as the love and dedication of Mark’s family, friends, and caregivers, he was supported day by day for the next 19 years.

A funeral service was held on September 9th, 2024 at Adath Emeth Cemetery, officiated by Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe. Mark was buried next to the person he respected and admired most, his father Moses Schimmel. Mark is survived by the love of his life, Lynn Klein Schimmel, and also his greatest achievement, his son Michael Aaron Schimmel (Sarah Schimmel), his two grandchildren Kensie and Harley Jo, his mother Sandra Schimmel (Moses Schimmel deceased), his brother Bruce (Eliana Schimmel) and sisters Lauren Smith (Paul Smith) and Lisa Schimmel (Madison Weiss).
