Mark Lewis Isikoff
June 15, 1947 – August 3, 2026
Mark Lewis Isikoff was the firstborn son of Otis Isikoff and Sylvia Bock Isikoff. He is survived by his brother, Jerry Isikoff (Christie) of Chicago, Illinois; his sister, Beth Huerta (John) of Denver, Colorado; his niece, Rachael Carpenter (Kevin); his nephew, Joel Huerta; and four grandnieces and grandnephews.
Mark was the first grandson of Victor and Josephine Bock and the oldest among his cousins Naomi Bock, David Bock, Ruby Bock, and Richard Bock. On his father’s side of the family, we also lovingly acknowledge his dear and sweet first cousin, Corrine Russo.
Mark lived a life of adventure, generosity, and love. He traveled extensively and worked closely with the Tai Chi Foundation throughout Europe and the United States. He taught Tai Chi around the world, lived in Greece and England, and, in his later years, spent much of his life in Amsterdam.
Throughout his adult life, Mark was deeply involved with the Arica School and closely aligned with its founder, Oscar Ichazo. Oscar’s teachings became a guiding force in Mark’s life, and through Arica, Mark formed many lasting and beautiful friendships. He was a devoted and generous supporter of the Arica School and remained deeply connected to its community throughout his life.
Mark graciously shared his good fortune with his friends. His generosity enabled many people to travel and attend Arica and Tai Chi trainings. He gave countless computers, phones, and other devices to friends and those in need. Whenever someone needed help, Mark was there.
Those who knew Mark remember not only his generosity, but also his warmth, humor, compassion, intelligence, and depth. His calm presence put people at ease, and his playful spirit brought joy to those around him. Whether sharing meditation, traveling to a training, enjoying a meal, or simply spending time together, Mark made people feel welcomed, supported, and deeply cared for.
When Mark entered hospice, friends from around the world wrote to him. Their messages reflected the deep love and gratitude so many felt for him:
“One of the dearest human beings I have ever known.”
“Your sense of humor still brings a smile to my face.”
“At the summer retreats, when everyone was asked about their dietary requirements, you would always write, ‘Steak and lobster, please.’”
“Whenever I was with him, I encountered his calm, abiding mind, which always put me at ease and reminded me that I didn’t have to understand everything right away—that it was okay and part of the process.”
“Dear one, I will carry you in my heart and see your soft smile and twinkling eyes there for eternity.”
We are deeply grateful for the many friends who shared weekly meditation with Mark throughout the years and whose love and friendship enriched his life. The outpouring of messages from around the world during his final days was a moving testament to the many lives he touched.
Mark believed there was no death. He was peaceful and assured in his transition. He leaves us with his gentle reassurance that all is well.
