Lila Rochelle Marks Katz, a beloved mother, Bubbie, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2025, in Austin, Texas, surrounded by the love of her daughters and grandchildren. She was 85 years old.
Born on July 5, 1940, in Wichita Falls, Texas, Lila later moved with her family to Dallas, where she graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School. A proud Dallasite, Lila was a lifelong fan of the Dallas Cowboys.
Lila's greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her four daughters and her adoring grandchildren. She loved cheering on her beloved Cowboys, playing Rummicub, enjoying a good movie or TV show, soaking in the sunshine, and tending to and appreciating flowers. Lila never met a stranger, and her infectious presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Lila is survived by her devoted daughters: Sheila (Mark) Cohen, Paula Katz (Sheila Bailey), Hilary Katz (Ted Roan), and Brenda (Jeff) Cohen. She leaves behind a legacy of love in her grandchildren: Elliot Cohen, Eden Cohen, Regan Cohen, Evan Katz-Gathercole, Stuart Cohen, Haylen Cohen, Tessa Katz-Gathercole, and Taryn Cohen. She is also survived by her sister Rose Marcus, brother Michel Marks, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside funeral service will be held at Eloise Woods Community Natural Burial Park in Austin, Texas, on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at 10:30am.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Lila's memory to The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden or Alzheimer's Association, two organizations that were meaningful to her and her family.
