Leonard (Len) Block, 83, of Lawrenceville, GA, passed away on April 25, 2026.
Len was a proud graduate of The Ohio State University, where he earned a degree in Mathematics and was a dedicated member of the Slide Rule Club. His transcript featured a wide variety of letters—leaving his children to wonder where he got the authority to critique their marks.
Following college, Len served as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam Era. He flew a desk, defeated countless pencils, and managed to win over his wife. He went on to build a career in banking as a systems analyst, contributing to early ATM processes and surviving the Y2K scare.
Deeply committed to volunteerism, Len was an integral part of South Jersey Girls Soccer, serving as a coach, club rep, and long time league president. His dedication was recognized with his induction into the New Jersey Youth Soccer Hall of Fame in 1995.
Above all, Len was devoted to his family. He was predeceased by his wife, Linda; his parents, Sylvia and Charles Block; his sister, Adrienne Chafetz; and a succession of pets (Jinx, Cocoa, Bailey, and Pepee)—none of which he wanted, but all of which he loved dearly.
He is survived by his children: Marc Block and his wife, Renae; Andrea Schorr and her husband, Dan; and Shawna Gray and her husband, Bowie. He was a proud grandfather to Louis and Mikayla Schorr, Ryan Block, Bowie and Abby Gray.
Len was a well-known introvert who will be remembered for his quiet, dry wit, his love of bridge, and his steadfast refusal to be fixed up after Linda passed.
A memorial service has not yet been planned.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Len’s memory to the Birmingham Duplicate Bridge Club (https://bhambridge.org/ Birmingham Duplicate Bridge Club 144 Business Center Drive, Birmingham, AL 35244) or the South Jersey Girls Soccer League (SJGSL, 6 Stonegate Ct, Blackwood, NJ 08012 or Venmo @SJGSL).
