Kiel’s Obituary

Kiel David Cooper passed away on June 20, 2025, in Marietta, GA. He was born to Reverend Dr. Bill Cooper and Ruth Cooper on March 18, 1962 in Ypsilanti, MI and grew up with his older sister, Dr. Ruth Mannschreck.  Kiel is survived by his wife, Tauna Lee Cooper, of Marietta, GA, their two sons, Joshua David and Caleb William, and his sister Dr. Ruth Mannschreck (husband The Reverend Dr. Jack) of Waterford, MI. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Chava Norah, his father, Reverend Dr. Bill Cooper, and his mother, Ruth Cooper.

The Cooper family was deeply involved in ministry, serving in pastoral and teaching roles throughout the United States and other countries for many years.  Kiel found meaning and purpose in Jewish teachings throughout his adult life beginning in Chicago, IL, then Long Island, NY, and finally Marietta, GA.  He received his Bachelor of Arts from Michigan State University and earned his Master of Divinity from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, IL. Kiel studied and taught Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic his whole life. He dug into the “why” behind things and loved to tease out Scripture, discovering new fountains of joy and knowledge in HaShem’s Word.  Sharing with and encouraging others to deepen their relationship with HaShem brought him the greatest joy.

You never knew what new hobby Kiel was exploring and tinkering with.  From hydroponics and cigars to chickens and retrofitting buses into homes, Kiel was excited by learning and trying new things.  He was always reading, and embodied the phrase “Have book, will travel.”  Kiel enjoyed woodworking and building furniture with his boys, Josh and Caleb.  He loved being on the water, sailed with his family, and earned many certifications to captain different classes of boats.  He relished deep conversations over a good cup of coffee, playing board games and cards with family, gardening, watching movies late at night, and cooking great breakfasts.  Above all, he cherished his family the most.

His graveside service will be on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at 3:00 PM EST at Crest Lawn Memorial Park located at 2000 Marietta Blvd NW, Atlanta, Georgia, 30318.  If you are unable to attend in-person the livestream can be found at: https://www.jewishfuneralcare.com/obituary/Kiel-Cooper

Shiva / memorial gathering will follow at 7:30PM EST at Chabad of Cobb at 4450 Lower Roswell Rd, Marietta, GA 30068.  All are welcome to attend.

I love you, Kiel.  We love you, Dad.
