OBITUARY:

Howard Peck, 88, of Sandy Springs, Georgia, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2026.

Born and raised in Fairfield, Connecticut, Howard moved to Atlanta in 1963 as a young mechanical engineer to join Lockheed Martin. Although engineering shaped his analytical mind, he later found his true professional calling in commercial real estate, building a career that spanned more than 40 years.

After leading the commercial division of a small firm, Howard founded his own business specializing in commercial and residential site sales. He later spent nearly two decades with Atlanta-based Bessemer Properties, where he was responsible for developing and marketing major projects including Phipps Plaza and early developments in Peachtree City, along with significant projects throughout the United States. Even after planning to retire, Howard was recruited by Mobil Land Development Company for one final chapter at Alpharetta’s Windward Business Park. Under his leadership, Windward Parkway flourished, and he played an instrumental role in attracting major companies to the area. He is widely credited with helping spark the commercial and residential growth of North Fulton County.

Beyond his professional achievements, Howard was deeply devoted to his faith and community. A man grounded by strong Jewish values, he believed Judaism was not simply something to observe, but a way of living. He served as past president of Congregation Shearith Israel and held numerous board positions within the Jewish community. In later years, he was an active member of Congregation Beth Tefillah, where he studied Torah, participated in weekly learning sessions, and built meaningful relationships across generations. From the congregation’s early years, he offered guidance in developing bylaws and was always ready to lend his practical expertise - fixing, building, or directing others on how to repair just about anything that needed attention.

Howard was also a Past Master of Fulton Lodge No. 216 and a proud “Flying Fez” Shriner, volunteering his time in the 1970s and 1980s to help transport young burn victims to the hospital for treatment.

Known for his engineering mind and steady determination, Howard could build or fix almost anything. He was an accomplished woodworker with a particular passion for restoring antique wooden boats, especially classic Chris-Crafts. His meticulous craftsmanship earned him numerous first place and ‘Best in Show’ awards at boat exhibitions around the country. For Howard, restoration was more than a hobby - it reflected his patience, precision, and pride in doing things the right way.

Though he considered himself a “Yankee” at heart, Howard made Atlanta his home for more than 60 years. He traveled extensively, including several meaningful trips to Israel, but his greatest pride was always his family.

Howard is survived by his beloved wife of 19 years, Claire; his children, Keith (Janine) Peck, Marla Arbiv, and Dana (Todd) Parker; his grandchildren, Ava and Ethan Peck; Becky, Jordan, and Ariel Arbiv; Ivy and Toby Parker; his stepchildren, Adina, Michael (Dara), and Alex (Jessica) Kalish; and his step grandchildren, Talia and Ryan Neufeld; Stella and Sy Kalish; Shane and Ruby Kalish.

A graveside service was held at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs on February 16, 2026.

Howard’s legacy lives on through the family he built, the community he strengthened, and the values of faith, integrity, and purpose that he instilled in all who knew him. May his memory be a blessing.
