OBITUARY:
Harvey Scott Gray, 73, of Atlanta, passed away peacefully and surrounded by loved ones on December 18, 2024. He is survived by his lifetime partner, Beth Ann Ehrlich Taratoot; son, Jordan D. Gray; daughter-in-law, Ashley Mastin; granddaughters, Lane Mastin-Gray, Brett Mastin-Gray; son, Warren B. Gray; daughter-in-law, Anna Griffith Gray; grandson, Walter M. Gray; and granddaughter, Hazel Norah Gray.
Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, Annette Berman Gray and Larry Gray. Born and raised in Savannah, Georgia, Harvey went to Savannah High School and graduated in 1968. He attended the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, Ga, 1972 B.S., cum laude and the University of Georgia School of Law, Athens, Ga, 1976 J.D., cum laude, graduating third in his class.
After graduating from law school, Harvey joined the Atlanta firm, Smith, Cohen, Ringel, Kohler and Martin before continuing as a founding partner at Fortson and White. He formed GRSMB (Harvey S. Gray, Michael J. Rust, Michael D. St. Amand, Matthew G. Moffett, James T. Brieske) in 1999. Harvey was a preeminent advocate and expert in the fields of constitutional law and civil rights defense, representing Georgia cities, counties, police chiefs, and sheriffs. He was rated AV by Martindale-Hubble, the highest rating afforded to lawyers by their peers. He was also listed among Georgia Super Lawyers since 2002.
Harvey found great joy in sharing his love of golfing, fishing, poker, and travel with his many dear friends. He was passionate about music and often played his treasured guitars, writing and performing for those close to him.
A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, December 26th at 5:00 pm at Congregation B’nai Torah, 700 Mount Vernon Hwy NE, Atlanta, GA. 30328.
