SHIVA: Shiva will be observed at the home of Harriet Miller: 2924 Orchard Knob SE, Atlanta, GA 30339 Sunday, August 9, Monday, August 10, Tuesday, August 11, Wednesday, August 12  Visitation will be 6:00-8:30 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.

Harriet Cohen Miller z”l was born in Atlanta, Georgia on August 31, 1933, to parents Sadie and Morris Cohen. She was a lifelong member of Ahavath Achim Synagogue. She grew up on 6th Street. She attended the University of Alabama and graduated from the University of Illinois.

Harriet married the love of her life, Alvin Miller z”l, on December 21, 1955. They loved life, loved family, and worldwide travels.

She taught preschool at JCC Midtown and then moved to Zaban. She taught 4-year-olds for over 20 years. When she retired from the JCC, she took up art as a hobby, took classes from Queida Kennedy, and developed her love of art. She built an art studio in her home that she ‘played in’ until the week she passed. She became an entrepreneur, with painted baskets that sold in gift shops around the southeast. She traveled with a group to Ecuador to paint schools and go to the Galapagos. Harriet and Alvin traveled extensively- the USSR immediately after it opened to visitors, China, again just after it opened to visitors, Cuba, Italy, and France. As a family, they camped extensively across the US and then all the way to Alaska.

Harriet is survived by her children, Wayne (Lori), Ronny (Cathy), Peggy (Lloyd), and Eric (Judy), her grandchildren Bruce (Emily), Gary (Michelle), Stuart (Deena), Hilary (Corey), Amanda (Ryan), Alex (Alex), and Alli (Ben), and her 11 great-grandchildren Aria, Seth, Elliott, Mikayla, Ian, Flynn, Simon, Addison, Logan, Samson, Melanie. She is also survived by dozens of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, painting partners, mahjong players, and life-long friends.

Harriet was predeceased by her husband, Alvin, brothers Bernard and Gerald, and sister, Betty. She will be deeply and dearly missed.
