Gwynn Hutlas Colten

Gwynn Hutlas Colten, 88, of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away on July 28, 2025. Gwynn was born Mattie Gwynn Sparks to Cletus Sparks and Vivian Long of Mocksville, North Carolina. Gwynn graduated from New Smyrna Beach High School (Florida) in 1955, graduated from the Jackson Memorial School of Nursing in 1958, when she also married Joseph E. Hutlas, Jr. She later earned her Bachelor of Science in Professional Arts from Saint Joseph’s College in Maine in 1984, and worked for BellSouth in Alabama. She retired and married Michael Colten in Decatur, Georgia in 1996. She loved reading (especially history), cross stitching, and cats.

Gwynn is survived by her stepdaughters, Melissa Colten and Heather Costa. Memorial donations may be made to The Temple of Atlanta. The burial will be in Massachusetts, and a Zoom Memorial will take place on Sunday, August 10.
