OBITUARY
Esther Margol (1927 – 2026)
Esther Margol, a woman of remarkable independence, boundless energy, and deep compassion, passed away peacefully in her home on March 10, 2026. Born in Valdosta, Georgia, in 1927, Esther was the youngest daughter of Latvian immigrants Benjamin and Rose Landey, who came to America in search of a better life—a legacy of hard work and resilience that Esther carried throughout her 98 years. Esther was famously "fierce" and lived life entirely on her own terms. To celebrate her 90th birthday, she purchased a brand-new Cadillac, and she remained a fixture at her local pool for water aerobics well into her mid-90s. Beyond her physical vitality, Esther was a dedicated and passionate collector. Wherever her travels took her, she delighted in hunting for vintage head vases and egg cups. Over the decades, she curated one of the largest egg cup collections. Even while working full-time, Esther prioritized giving back to her community and her heritage. Alongside her husband, Howard, she co-created the American Fund for Latvian Lithuanian Jews. Together, they established and funded a vital soup kitchen and medical clinic in Lithuania, providing a lifeline for those in the lands of her ancestors. Closer to home, she was a dedicated volunteer and a familiar fixture at the Northside Hospital Auxiliary for over 20 years. Esther’s greatest joy was her family. She shared a beautiful marriage of 69 years with her husband, Howard. Her memory will be cherished by her four children: Bruce, Gary, Felice, and Maury. She also leaves behind a vibrant legacy through her nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, all of whom inherited a piece of her spirited heart and her "no-nonsense" wisdom. A graveside service will be held March 13 at Arlington Memorial Park. Dressler's Jewish Funeral Care, 770-451-4999.
"She lived with a fierce determination and a sharp mind, leaving the world a better place—and a bit more organized—than she found it."
