OBITUARY
Cynthia Ann Pousman passed away on Wednesday, May 6th, 2026, peacefully in her beautiful home in Decatur, Georgia. She was an incredible person, wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, and community member.
Cynthia had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge as evidenced over her lifetime: a graduate student at the University of Georgia, a biologist at Emory University, a National Board certified biology teacher, and in her retired years: a Georgia State University student studying science, literature, and cinema, as well as her continued pursuit of Jewish teachings and the Hebrew language. And her devotion to educating others was unparalleled. She had an infectious enthusiasm which made learning from her a joy for so many.
As a wife, Cynthia was a true partner to her husband, Mike Pousman, living together around the world, from Kibbutz Keturah in Israel to Camp Judaea, and even a regenerative farm in Hawaii. She was Mike's biggest advocate, most enjoyable travel partner, and best friend. As a mother, she was gentle-natured while remaining active and involved in her children's development. Always guiding with a calm voice and showing the path with a nudge rather than a push. As a community member, she was reliably on call and ready to step in, making minyan during the week at Adas Yeshurin Synagogue, cleaning up after a latke party at the JCC, or sitting Shiva with grieving families.
Cynthia is survived by her sons, Zachary Pousman and his wife Erin, and Barry Pousman and his wife Kimberly; her sister-in-law, Barbara Alcorn; her nephew, Jefferey Sapperstein; and her two favorite people in the world, her grandchildren, Penny Rose and Teddy Orion Pousman.
May her memory be a blessing.
