OBITUARY
Sheila (Chi-Chi) Berman, age 83, passed away on July 24, 2026, surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Chi was born in Bronx, NY to Carl and Gertrude Harold on Dec. 26, 1942. She moved to Miami, Florida when she was 8 years old. She graduated from Miami High School and the University of Miami with a degree in Elementary Education. She and her husband Elliott were avid UM football fans and enjoyed attending games for over 35 years. In fact, they flew back to attend UM’s final football game in the Orange Bowl.

Chi-Chi taught school in Miami Dade County until her first child, Alexis, was born. She became a kindergarten teacher at Beth Am Day School after her daughter Lori entered nursery school. Chi- Chi taught kindergarten for 30 years until she retired in 2003.

She met the love of her life, Elliott, while they were both students at the University of Miami. Together, they shared nearly 62 years of marriage, building a family full of love, support, and cherished memories. After her retirement, they moved to North Georgia, where they continued to make joyful memories with family and friends.

Chi-Chi was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Some of her fondest moments were family trips she and Elliott took with their daughters, and later, with their grandchildren who lovingly called the trips “Camp Mema and Pepa.” Chi-Chi’s grandchildren and great grandchildren brought a sparkle to her eye and endless joy to her heart. She delighted in watching her family grow- celebrating her children and grandchildren’s milestones, from graduations to marriages. She looked forward to daily Facetime calls with her great grandchildren. Chi- Chi’s family were the most important people to her, and she always put them first.

Chi-Chi was as known for her radiant personality, wonderful sense of humor, joyful spirit, and generous heart. She lived a life full of love, resilience, and dedication to her family. She faced life’s challenges, including a kidney transplant, shoulder replacements, chronic back pain, and her cancer diagnosis, with unwavering strength and determination.

Chi-Chi is survived by her beloved husband Elliott; her daughters, Alexis (Alex) and Lori (Ross); her grandchildren, Loren (Brendan), Gary (Melissa) and Rachel and her great-grandchildren, Emilia and Logan.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks those wishing to honor Chi-Chi donate to the Emory Transplant Center, The American Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice.

Chi-Chi’s legacy of love, laughter, and dedication to family and education will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
