OBITUARY:
Carolyn Frances Benkowitz (née Hoffman), beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on November 23, 1946, in Lakewood, New Jersey, she was the daughter of Nathan and Evelyn Hoffman and sister to Lawrence and Norman, both of whom predeceased her.
Carolyn graduated from Trenton State College with a degree in Music Education and began her career as an elementary school music teacher before spending more than 30 years as a dedicated executive assistant. She married her childhood neighbor, Edwin, and together they shared 56 years of love and partnership.
She is survived by Edwin and their four daughters—Dina, Meryl, Alyse, and Caryn—and grandchildren Skyler, Brendan, and Lucas, all of whom brought her immense pride and joy. Singing was Carolyn’s lifelong passion, and she spent decades performing with Sweet Adelines choruses including Georgia Harmony, Song of Atlanta, and Georgia Sensation.
Known for her creativity, exceptional organizational skills, and spirited personality, Carolyn brought color - literally and figuratively - to every space she entered. Her signature look included a streak of purple or red in her hair, a playful touch that perfectly captured her fun, spunky nature.
Carolyn will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, and the unmistakable spark she carried through life. She touched the hearts of so many and leaves behind a legacy of love, music, and resilience.
