OBITUARY:
Beverly Ruth Popkin, age 95, passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at her home in Atlanta. Beverly, or “Grammie” as she was known by her grandchildren and great granddaughters, was born to Faye and Sidney Cotlar on May 3, 1930 in St. Louis, Missouri. She is survived by her two loving children, Nancy Popkin Rousso (Danny), and Mark J. Popkin (Renae), as well as her grandchildren, Ashley Popkin Wilson, Andrew Popkin (Mary Beth), Emily Rousso Kapper (Seth), Craig Rousso (Katie), and seven great granddaughters, Ellie and Emma Wilson, Lucy Popkin, Charlotte and Julie Kapper, and Hannah and Lily Rousso. Beverly was a founding and the sole surviving member of the Atlanta “Good Time Girls.” She was adored by her family and friends alike. She loved her family and treated her friends as if they were her family. She was a true blessing to all those who met or got to know her well. As a young girl, Beverly grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, married her husband, Gerald M. Popkin (of blessed memory) not long after graduating high school, and moved South in the early 50’s to pursue a life filled with family and joy. After many years as a homemaker, empty nester Beverly obtained her license and sold real estate for Northside Realty for many years until retiring. But retirement wasn’t for active Beverly who soon went to work for Sweet Repeats, a Buckhead nearly new children’s shop. She worked there until well into her eighties. Adoring babies and young children, as well as working with some great people at the store, it was more of a joy for her to be there than it was ever a job. Beverly continued to drive into her early nineties and could be found eating with her friends, at least the ones who could still get out, at any one of a number of her favorite restaurants around the Atlanta area. Living in Atlanta for over 60 years, she had eaten at them all! Vigilant about her appearance until her last days, Beverly was always dressed to a T, always going about town looking ten years younger than her age! She loved to shop and was well known by most every local clothing store in the Buckhead area. Possessing an extreme love of family, Beverly remained active in her family’s lives until the very end, always curious about her grandchildren and great granddaughter’s lives and well-being. Beverly’s love, kindness, and sincerity to others will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Graveside services will be held at the Beth J. Hagodel Jewish Cemetery, located in Clayton, Missouri on Wednesday January 28, 2026, where Beverly will be interred by her late husband in a private ceremony with her closest family in attendance. Rather than shiva, the family will be planning a ‘Celebration of Life” event sometime in the future. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Atlanta Humane Society, Children’s Hospital of Atlanta (CHOA) or a charity of your choice.
