OBITUARY
Alan Earl Serby, 83, passed away on April 13, 2025, in Atlanta, Georgia. Born on November 30, 1941, in Brooklyn, New York, Alan led a life marked by professional excellence and deep devotion to family.
Alan pursued higher education at Emory University in Atlanta, where he earned both a Bachelor of Arts and a Juris Doctor degree.
This academic foundation laid the groundwork for a distinguished legal career that spanned decades. As an accomplished attorney and partner at Troutman Sanders LLP, Alan provided counsel to major corporations and played a pivotal role as lead outside counsel to Southern Company for many years. His legal acumen extended to the highest levels of the judiciary; Alan presented and argued cases before the United States Supreme Court—an achievement that underscored his exceptional skill and dedication to the law.
Beyond these professional accomplishments, Alan was deeply committed to his family. Alan is survived by his beloved wife of more than 60 years, Brenna (Surasky) Serby; children Todd Serby (Crissy), Lisa Weinbach (Doug), and Dana Serby (Frank Rhodes); and grandchildren Sam Weinbach, Jonah Weinbach, Aiden Serby, and Laurel Serby. Alan also leaves behind his brother Michael Serby (Susan), sister Lynne Serby Cross, and numerous nieces and nephews who cherished his presence.
Alan was predeceased by their parents, Herman Serby and Mary (Cooper) Serby.
Known affectionately as “Pop,” Alan embraced many roles throughout life—husband, father, grandfather, older brother, uncle—and each was filled with warmth and commitment. Those who knew them will remember not only his sharp intellect but also a love for travel, classic movies, spirited political discussions, and watching sports—especially baseball (Braves and Dodgers!) and golf.
A funeral service honoring Alan’s life was held on April 15, 2025, at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs, Georgia.
May Alan's memory be a blessing and bring comfort to all who knew him and serve as a lasting testament to a life well lived.
