OBITUARY

Alan Kaplan died February 26, 2024. He was born on September 30, 1933 to Murray and Anne Kaplan in New York, NY, moved to Miami Beach, FL in his early childhood where he graduated from Miami Beach High School in 1951.

Alan attended the University of Florida. He was very active in AEPi fraternity and served as President and House Manager. Alan left the University of Florida for the Army and served for two years during the Korean War while stationed at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas.

In the summer of 1955 when he was discharged from the Army, he stopped in Atlanta to see Glenda and never left. Alan wed Glenda, the love of his life on February 2, 1958.

Glenda and Alan were partners in marriage as well as business. Alan often joked that one of his favorite things to do was to eat, so he opened Supreme Foods to ensure he would never go hungry. Alan worked tirelessly in all parts of the business from taking orders to delivering food. He supplied Kosher and specialty foods to grocery stores, caterers, and restaurants for over 30 years. Alan and Glenda treated their employees like family.

In the mid 1960s, even before he had a son, Alan was involved in the Cub Scouts as a Pack Cubmaster with dens that met at Beth Jacob. Alan was a member of the Masons Shriners and Scottish Rite.

Glenda and Alan enjoyed traveling together with friends and going on road trips to visit family. Alan was a lifetime member of Congregation Shearith Israel Atlanta.

Glenda predeceased Alan in May, 2021. Alan is survived by his children Jill and Alan Bach and Lance and Gail (Rosenthal) Kaplan; Grandchildren Alicia and Joel Portman, Michelle and Aaron Refoua and Ariana Kaplan; and sister Sara Schreiber.
