OBITUARY
Alan Friedman passed away early Wednesday morning, August 26, 2026, in Atlanta, Georgia, after living with Parkinson’s disease for more than 25 years.

Alan is survived by his sons, Craig and Seth Friedman, and grandchildren, Ari, Leah, and Eli.

A writer, musician, and satirist, Alan began his career as a sports writer for The Star-Ledger in New Jersey before moving to Washington, D.C., where he worked as an senior congressional aide. While in Washington, he was also a member of the political satire group The Capitol Steps, combining his love of politics, comedy, and performance.

After moving to Atlanta, Alan continued his love of satire and created his own group, Southern Discomfort. Later in life, while living with Parkinson’s, Alan took up the piano and continued playing despite the challenges of the disease.

Writing also remained an important part of Alan’s life. Recently, he fulfilled a longtime ambition with the publication of his first novel, Second Chances.

Alan faced Parkinson’s disease for more than two decades while continuing to find creative outlets through writing, music, and humor.

He will be deeply missed by his sons, Craig and Seth; his grandchildren, Ari, Leah, and Eli; and the family and friends who knew and loved him.
