Brenna Dawn Segal, age 43, of Sandy Springs, GA passed away unexpectedly on May 24th, 2016. Born at Northside Hospital, she was a fifth generation Atlantan. She was well loved and respected by many. She was active as a Jewish youth leader in BBYO and Camp Barney Medintz. She was a graduate of Riverwood High School, Class of 1991; Harvard University, Class of 1995; and earned her doctorate degree from the University of Georgia School of Veterinary Medicine, Class of 2005. She was the proud owner of the Cat Clinic of Cobb where she dedicated her life to her practice daily. She was loved and respected by her patients and pet families; they will miss her greatly. She embraced life fully as an avid hiker and lover of the great outdoors. One of her favorite places to be was on the Appalachian Trail, especially Blood Mountain. She touched many around her. Brenna was incredibly philanthropic, volunteering for the Humane Society and acting as a board member for Mostly Mutts. Brenna was a loving and special daughter, sister, aunt, and friend who is survived by her parents, Jill and Joseph Segal; her brother and sister-in-law, William and Julie Segal; her nieces, Madelyn and Ava Segal; her nephew, Levi Segal; her uncle and aunt, Jeff and Giselle Toran; her aunt and uncle Wendy and Bruce Pearlman; and her fiancé, Pamela J. White, all of Atlanta. She was the widow of Joy Bruce, formerly of Atlanta. She was the proud parent of her pets: Nutter Butter, Oscar, Sanford, Moo Kitty, and Jolie. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Sign online guestbook at www.edressler.com. May the memories of our loved ones remain for a blessing.

I was one of the leaders of Brenna's "FOP" First-Year Outdoor Program start-of-college backpacking trip. I remember her passion for the outdoors, her wit and her huge smile. She spoke so warmly of Georgia, her family and her summer camp experiences growing up. We were not recently in touch but I have thought of her often over the years. Please know she is remembered with love by many and she will never be forgotten. May her memory be a blessing.

Dear Segal family, my heart goes out to you for the wrenching loss of your wonderful daughter. She & I were college buddies. I looked up to her greatly for her warmth, honesty, quiet confidence, and generosity of spirit. In fact, a few years back, when my wife and I were deciding what to name our soon-to-arrive baby girl... we went through literally every name in the book (of Hebrew names) without being able to agree on one... and then I remembered the long ago friend who lived Jewish values with downhome Southern hospitality. So we have a little Brenna. Your daughter was a true and good soul who did good for so many. I will always remember her.

We are so so sad to hear of Dr. Segal's passing... We knew and loved her as our beloved kitties' Vet. She is in Heaven now; we know this. May God give you strength and faith to deal with her loss. Sincerely, the Cooper Family and their one remaining feline son, Adventure.

My deepest condolences to your family and fiance on the loss of such a beautiful soul. I knew Dr Segal thru the cat clinic as she was my vet. She was such a sweet and caring person. Always had a smile on her face. Always. She was a kind soul, I will miss her greatly.
    Melisa (Misha) Cahnmann-TaylorJun 11 2016 06:20 am
Dear Brenna's family, We met when Brenna celebrated graduation from Vet school. She and I co-hosted our first Passover on our own together here in Athens. She was such a beautiful person. I was in Mexico when news of her sudden passing occurred and when you sat Shiva. I am aching for you all and the loss of this precious life. If there's a time when you need additional support from someone at UGA, please let me know. I am so very very sorry.

I remember senior year in High School. Brenna and I were in Mrs. Nipp's college english class. I remember Brenna taking me to the Dekalb College Library, on multiple occasions, so that I could do research for papers. I was always appreciative of that. Brenna was obviously very intelligent, but I remember her kindness and her calmness. I also played varsity tennis, and I remember how much Brenna liked tennis. She was a good player. Brenna was a quality person and I wish her soul peace and happiness. I am so very sorry for your unexpected loss. Forrest Hobbs

So sorry to here the lost of you daughter. May God be with all your family at this difficult time.

I was so shocked and saddened to hear of Dr. Segal's sudden passing. I had just spoken to her the week before when she treated my cat while boarded at the Clinic. She cared for my cat since she took over the practice, and I always found her to be everything you would want in a vet: kind, knowledgeable, patient, experienced, and wise. She will be greatly missed. My deepest sympathy to her family and friends.
    Joanne SullivanJun 2 2016 01:43 pm
My husband and myself first met Dr. Segal when we brought in our cat who was paralyzed. Dr. Segal was most compassionate vet we have ever dealt with. We felt so fortunate to have her coaching our decisions. We offer our most sincere condolences other family and friends. We are genuinely glad to have had her as our vet.
Joanne, John, and Our MitziJun 1 2016 09:18 pm
This is incredibly sad news. Two years ago Dr. Segal saved the life of our cat Mitzi from bone cancer. We were fortunate to find her services after poor care elsewhere. Mitzi and her family are forever greatful. Dr. Segal was at the top of her field in her care and commitment. We extend our deep condolences to the family. She was a lovely person. May she rest in peace.

Dear Cousins, I'm so very sorry to learn of Brenna's death. How tragic to lose someone so young. I hope her memory will be a blessing to all of the family. I am sorry that I only just discovered this or we would have been with you. Sending lots of love from all of us.
    Gabrielle SmithJun 1 2016 04:58 pm
I am so sad to learn of Dr. Segal's passing. She was a tremendously kind and compassionate animal doctor, and helped my cat Gladys ease her way to the rainbow bridge at 22 years of age. I'll forever be grateful to Dr. Segal for the extra time she spent with me, and with Gladys and my other cat Sienna. She will always be remembered fondly. Her family and friends have my deepest and heartfelt sympathy at this time of such loss and sorrow. I hope we can all find a way to celebrate her life in appreciation. Thank you for giving her to us.
    Janet KeetonJun 1 2016 04:14 pm
My cat, Olaf, was a patient of Dr. Segal. She was such a loving and caring vet! I could tell the first time I met her that she was very special and that she was the best vet for our family. I am sure that her family must be so proud of her. Olaf and I will deeply miss her wonderful care and advice.
    Linda PraterJun 1 2016 03:14 pm

    Jill WaltsJun 1 2016 10:25 am
I am very sorry for your loss- I only met Dr. Segal in the clinic a couple of times when I took my babies in to see Dr. Nancy Stumpf. If she saw me in the waiting room, she would always stop what she was doing and come over and play with Beemer, Benzy and Amour. Praying you'll be comforted with precious memories and God's presence to care for you in your loss- She gave a lot of 4 legged friends comfort, compassion and love-
    Ivan SkottJun 1 2016 10:21 am

I want to express my sympathy for the loss of Brenna's earthly presence. I remember the first day of her introduction to the Cat Clinic of Cobb. She was delightful. She saved my Cleo. We will never understand why God calls us home, sooner or later, but, her mission was done. I guess God needed a Vet in Heaven. And, Heaven is wonderful, to be in God's Light. I hope that her babies left behind, will have great care. God bless her family...in their loss...and reunited one day. Stephanie Silvers

As a client/patient of Dr. Segal, I just want the family to know how sad I was to learn this news. As wonderful as she was to her four-legged patients, she was also so warm and kind to her two-legged clients. She was smart, funny, and patient with all my questions and concerns, and truly took an interest in me, the client, when there were hard decisions to be made. I feel so incredibly lucky to have had her in my life, and I'll always remember her many kindnesses to me and my kitties.
